The Children of Little Heath School – taken in 1904. Sadly, the photograph has suffered slight damage. Miss Spencer, Head Mistress, is middle left.
Miss Spencer was the longest serving school mistress (and subsequently head mistress) of Little Heath School. She taught at the school from 1881-1926 and occupied the school house from 1904. She passed away in 1927 and was buried in Dunham Town graveyard.
The School House – taken circa 1890. The plaque reads: “This school was erected in 1759 for the benefit of the township of Dunham Massey according to the will of Thomas Walton, Gent”. The boy on the wall is Edgar Yarwood.
Early use – taken in 1958, after the school had closed in 1953. The hall had to be used in its existing condition until funds could be raised to carry out the required improvement works. The outbuilding (far left) was the toilet facilities, which remained in use until 1964.
Conversion to the Village Hall – taken in 1964. Despite the damaged photo negative, you can see the construction of the stage area to the rear and the toilet facilities near. The large opening became the main entrance prior to the later addition of a porch in 1985.
The Village Hall grand opening on Friday 15th January 1965, Lord Stamford formally opens the hall. Seated next to him is Mr. Harry Holt (Chairman), accompanied by the rest of the Village Hall Committee, which had formed in 1946 and worked tirelessly for nearly 20 years.
